Online Course: A Starter’s Kit for IMAESC

Group Members: Kainat, Tove, Vicha and Zainab

The group work for the course Teaching Adults Online is now finalised, and this is a short reflection on the process of working together and my engagement, within the group ‘A Starter’s Kit for IMAESC’.

From the beginning of this group work, I felt very excited about the topic, thanks to that we had properly discussed the theme and considered many different options. The fact that we listened to each other meant that we arrived to a place where everyone had their opinions taken into account and could do something they cared about. I am also happy that we chose a topic we were familiar with, as we could focus on the design in Moodle and learning materials, rather than learning new theories and concepts.

Because of time pressure, we were tempted to divide the work between us and work individually. However, we realised this wasn’t possible and started collaborating more and more. This was really noticeable and the course improved a lot towards the end. It highlighted to me that even though one feels stressed, you should always take time to collaborate and talk about roles and process. It helps so much with the final product.

We achieved all of this online! No meetings were done in the “real world” and this was very exciting. It showed to me that I can engage with people well over Skype, and that a group can manage to plan and create through online means.

Overall, I have learnt an incredible amount about myself, group work and foremost, the creation of courses online. I feel empowered and skilled after this and cannot wait to test this out in the non-academic world!
